Taiwan’s imports surged 51.7% year-on-year to a record high of USD 63.59 billion in September 2026, accelerating from the 44.3% increase recorded in August. Demand remained particularly robust for several categories, including parts of electronic products (up 82.5%), information, communication and audio-visual products (up 106.5%), mineral products (up 38.9%), machinery (up 28.1%), and chemicals (up 5.0%).
Mainland China and Hong Kong continued to be Taiwan’s largest sources of imports, together accounting for 21.2% of the total, with shipments from these economies jumping 59.1%. Imports also rose sharply from ASEAN countries (up 98.4%), South Korea (up 82.5%), and Japan (up 38.0%), while more moderate increases were seen in imports from the United States (up 15.5%), Europe (up 7.4%), and the Middle East (up 32.8%).
Over the first nine months of the year, total imports reached USD 501.0 billion, representing a 41.3% increase compared with the same period a year earlier.
