The annual inflation rate in Mauritius surged to 5.7% in September 2026, its highest level since February 2024, up from 4.9% in August. Additional upward pressure came from several categories: restaurants and hotels (9% vs. 8.6%), furnishings (4.6% vs. 4.4%), clothing and footwear (2.5% vs. 2.4%), and education (6.3% vs. 5.4%). Inflation also remained high for housing and utilities at 8.9%, while prices in recreation, sport, and culture rose 2.7%.
On a monthly basis, consumer prices increased by 0.6% in September, following a 0.4% rise in August.
