Brazil Auto Sales Slip in August

Brazil’s new-vehicle sales declined 1.6% month over month in August 2026 to 275,100 units, following a 2.6% increase in July. The month had two fewer business days than July. Light-vehicle sales totaled 263,100 units: passenger-car sales edged up 0.2% to 213,100 units, while light commercial vehicle sales fell 5.5% to 50,000 units. Heavy-vehicle sales came to 12,000 units, with truck sales down 14.1% to 10,000 units and bus sales down 9.4% to 2,000 units.

Electrified vehicles achieved a record 24.4% market share in August, including an all-time high of 25,900 fully electric vehicles. Average daily sales reached 13,100 units, the second-highest level so far this year, behind May’s 13,700 units. Year to date, sales totaled 1.975 million units, an 18.4% increase year-on-year. The 2 million-unit threshold was crossed in early September, about one month earlier than in 2025.
