UK Rightmove House Price Index Slides Further in August, Annual Decline Deepens to 1.0%

The UK housing market showed a sharper annual decline in August, with the Rightmove House Price Index registering a year-over-year drop of 1.0%, data updated on 16 August 2026 show. This compares with a 0.4% annual fall recorded in July 2026.

The figures mean that, when measured against the same month a year earlier, asking prices for UK homes are now falling at a faster pace than in the previous month. While July’s reading already pointed to mild downward pressure on prices, August’s deeper decline suggests that sellers are having to adjust expectations more noticeably year-on-year to secure buyer interest in the current market environment.
