New Zealand shares rose 29 points, or 0.2%, to 14,042 in Thursday morning trade, extending gains for a third straight session. The market followed a rise in US stock futures, driven by a sharp rally in Nvidia shares after its earnings release.
The benchmark index notched a fresh all-time high, having closed above 14,000 for the first time on Wednesday, with strength in the materials sector providing key support. Investor sentiment remained buoyant amid ongoing earnings season, with several companies, including Genesis Energy and Summerset Group, scheduled to report results today.
Traders continued to ride the positive momentum, with notable advances across energy, healthcare, utilities, and consumer discretionary stocks. Early outperformers included EBOS Group, up 2.9%; Chorus, up 0.8%; Turners Automotive, up 0.6%; and ANZ Group, up 0.5%.
Genesis Energy gained 1.1% ahead of its earnings announcement, while Summerset Group surged 4.2% after reporting a 92% jump in net profit for the six months ended June 30, 2026.
