Mexico’s unemployment rate inched up to 3.0% in August 2026 from 2.9% in July, in line with market expectations. The number of unemployed reached 1.9 million people. The jobless rate stood at 3.1% for women and 2.9% for men.
By duration of unemployment, 43.1% of the unemployed had been out of work for one month or less, while 32.5% had been unemployed for more than one month and up to three months.
In terms of age, the largest share of the unemployed was among people aged 25 to 44, at 47.8%, followed by those aged 15 to 24, at 33.4%.
Looking at educational attainment, 13.6% of the unemployed had not completed secondary education, whereas 86.3% had attained at least that level or higher.
