Mexico Private Investment Rises More Than Expected

Mexico’s gross fixed investment rose 6.6% year-on-year in July 2026, moderating from a 7.7% increase in June but surpassing market expectations of a 5.6% gain. This was the fourth consecutive month of expansion, though momentum softened as public-sector investment growth slowed sharply to 6.2% from 18.1% the previous month. In contrast, private investment accelerated, rising 6.7% after a 6% advance in June.

By component, construction investment expanded 7.1%, supported by a 10.6% increase in residential construction. Investment in machinery and equipment grew 6.2%, driven primarily by an 11.5% jump in imported capital goods, while domestic capital spending on machinery and equipment fell 2.5%.

On a seasonally adjusted monthly basis, gross fixed investment grew 1.4% in July, following a 1.3% increase in June. Over the first seven months of 2026, gross fixed investment was up 1.7% compared with the same period a year earlier.
