bovespa Rises on Energy and Mining Gains

The Ibovespa advanced 0.5% on Thursday, closing at 187,197 points, driven by gains in energy and mining shares. Petrobras climbed 1.3%, tracking the rally in oil prices after reports that the United States is sending a third aircraft carrier strike group to the Middle East. Vale added 0.6% in a session marked by the absence of iron ore trading in China due to the Golden Week holiday.

The major banks ended mixed against a backdrop of elevated global bond yields and renewed inflation concerns fueled by higher energy prices. Banco do Brasil slipped 0.2%, while Bradesco edged up 0.3%. Itaú and Santander retreated 0.3% and 3%, respectively.

Retail names outperformed. Magazine Luiza extended the previous session’s gains, rising 1.5%. Azzas surged 7% following new proposals related to Farm.

On the political front, Datafolha is scheduled to release a new electoral poll after the close of trading. Later in the evening, Globo will host a presidential debate, marking the formal end of the campaign. Senator Flávio Bolsonaro has confirmed his participation, while President Lula is unlikely to attend.
