Lithuania Trade Gap Biggest in 9 Months

Lithuania recorded a trade deficit of EUR 606.9 million in April 2026, widening from EUR 567.7 million in the same month a year earlier. This was the largest trade gap since July of the previous year, even as exports grew faster than imports.

Exports surged by 18.2% year-on-year to EUR 3,613.9 million, the highest level in more than three years. The increase was mainly driven by stronger sales of mineral fuels, mineral oils and products of their distillation (up 88.7%), machinery and mechanical appliances (up 38.3%), and plastics and articles thereof (up 23.6%).

Imports also rose to their highest level in over three years, increasing by 16.4% to EUR 4,220.8 million. The growth was primarily attributable to higher purchases of mineral fuels, mineral oils and products of their distillation (up 49.8%), as well as electrical machinery and equipment and parts thereof (up 46.5%).

Over the January–April period, Lithuania’s trade deficit narrowed to EUR 1,958 million from EUR 2,219.6 million in the same period a year earlier, as exports (up 3.4%) expanded more quickly than imports (up 1.1%).
