Romania Producer Inflation Eases to 4-Month Low

Romania’s producer inflation slowed to 8.75% year-on-year in July 2026, down from an upwardly revised 13.13% in June, which had been the highest rate in more than three years. This was the lowest reading since March, largely due to a sharp deceleration in price growth for electricity, gas, steam, and air-conditioning supply (6.22% vs 23.32% in June).

By contrast, costs continued to rise in several sectors. Producer prices increased further in mining and quarrying (10.24% vs 8.25%) and in manufacturing (9.65% vs 9.09%), with notable gains in food products (3.35%), leather and related products (6.11%), paper and paper products (5.35%), coke and refined petroleum products (44.86%), chemicals and chemical products (16.56%), basic metals (12.30%), computer, electronic and optical products (11.58%), and electrical equipment (9.13%). Prices also edged higher in water supply, sewerage, waste management, and remediation activities (14.73% vs 14.20%).

On a monthly basis, producer prices rose 0.69% in July, slightly below the 0.84% increase recorded in the previous month.
