US Futures Pull Back

US equity futures fell on Monday amid renewed concerns that AI safety risks could slow both technological development and related capital spending, while global bond yields remained elevated. The S&P 500 declined 0.6% and the tech‑heavy Nasdaq 100 dropped 1.5%, with the Dow slipping 0.2%.

The risk-off tone followed comments from Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei, who advocated a slower pace of advanced AI development to better account for the growing capabilities and associated risks of new models. His remarks drew measured support from OpenAI CEO Sam Altman and xAI CEO Elon Musk. The heightened focus on AI risks curbed speculative appetite for chipmakers and AI‑infrastructure names: Micron, AMD, Sandisk, Lam Research, Marvell, and GE Vernova fell between 5% and 8%, while Nvidia lost 2.5%.

At the same time, long‑dated Treasury yields held near recent highs ahead of this week’s Federal Reserve decision. The move came as the breakdown of talks among GCC states extended disruptions to tanker traffic from the region, pushing energy prices higher.
