Tourist arrivals in Montenegro rose by 11.5% year-on-year to a record 264,475 in August 2026, accelerating from a 4.4% increase in July. Foreign visitors continued to dominate, making up 91.7% of all arrivals (242,469), while domestic tourists accounted for the remaining 8.3% (22,006).
Europe remained the leading source region, contributing 82.0% of foreign arrivals. The largest individual markets were Serbia, Russia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, the United Kingdom, and France. Non-European visitors represented 18.0% of foreign arrivals, with the highest shares coming from Israel, the United States, and China, including Hong Kong.
By type of accommodation, seaside resorts were the most popular, attracting 82.5% of arrivals. They were followed by the capital city (8.8%), mountain resorts (5.2%), and other resorts (3.5%).
Total overnight stays in collective accommodation reached 1,125,805 in August, with foreign tourists accounting for 91.4% of these stays and domestic tourists for 8.6%.
