New Zealand shares edged 33 points, or 0.2%, higher to 13,899 in Wednesday morning trade, extending the prior session’s gains, supported chiefly by strength in healthcare, real estate, and industrial stocks. Sentiment remained underpinned by optimism around corporate results, with EBOS Group, Fletcher Building, and Spark New Zealand all scheduled to report earnings later in the day.
Upside was limited, however, by a weak lead from Wall Street, where a selloff in chipmaker stocks, rising US Treasury yields, and higher oil prices weighed on equities.
On the data front, New Zealand’s input and output producer prices climbed 2.9% and 1.6%, respectively, quarter-on-quarter in Q2, marking the fastest quarterly increases since Q1 2025.
Among individual movers, EBOS Group jumped 4.1% after reporting a 4.7% increase in net profit for FY 2026, while Fletcher Building advanced 4.8% as the company swung back to profit following a loss in the previous quarter. Other early gainers included Gentrack Group, up 1.3%, and Fisher & Paykel, up 0.4%.
