Indonesia Car Sales Surge 28.1% in September

New car sales in Indonesia rose 28.1% year-on-year to 79,450 units in September 2026, slowing from a 32.4% jump in August but still marking a sixth straight month of expansion, according to data from the Association of Indonesian Automotive Industries (GAIKINDO). The moderation in growth followed sharper gains in July and August, which were partly driven by the GAIKINDO Indonesia International Auto Show (GIIAS) 2026, held from July 29 to August 9.

Over the first nine months of the year, sales climbed 21% from the same period a year earlier to 679,020 units, underscoring resilient consumer demand despite inflationary pressures and higher non-subsidized fuel prices. GAIKINDO has previously forecast domestic new car sales to reach 850,000 units in 2026, implying a 5.8% increase from the 2025 total of 803,687 units.

Meanwhile, retail new car sales in September grew 27.4% year-on-year to 81,243 units. On a month-on-month basis, however, total car sales declined 2.7%.
