Frankfurt’s DAX 40 fell 0.7% to around 25,400 on Monday, giving back part of last week’s strong gains and tracking the broader downturn across European equity markets. Sentiment was pressured by mounting social unrest in several European countries, particularly in France, as well as ongoing geopolitical tensions in Eastern Europe and the Middle East.
Investors also continued to focus on corporate earnings releases on both sides of the Atlantic. Most major sectors finished lower, with industrials and banks among the weakest performers. Notable decliners included Continental, Rheinmetall, Airbus, Vonovia, Commerzbank, and Deutsche Bank, which fell between 1.4% and 2.9%.
