German Producer Inflation Accelerates to 2.2% YoY in May, Up from 1.7%

Germany’s producer price inflation picked up in May 2026, signaling a further build-up of price pressures at the factory gate. Producer Price Index (PPI) data updated on 19 June 2026 showed a year-over-year increase of 2.2%, compared with a 1.7% rise in April 2026.

The figures are based on year-over-year comparisons, with the May reading reflecting the change in producer prices versus May a year earlier, while the April figure measured prices against the same month of the previous year. The acceleration suggests that cost pressures for German producers are rising, which could eventually filter through to consumer prices and influence the broader inflation outlook for the euro area’s largest economy.
