India’s BSE Sensex closed about 0.6% higher at 74,729.3 on Friday, its strongest finish since September 23 and extending gains into a second consecutive session. Market sentiment was buoyed by robust corporate earnings and reduced expectations of further US interest rate hikes, even as elevated crude oil prices and persistent foreign portfolio outflows continued to weigh on the outlook.
Investors also evaluated the Securities and Exchange Board of India’s (SEBI) move to reverse its earlier decision on closing auction settlements for expiring derivatives contracts.
Technology stocks led the advance, highlighted by an 8.5% surge in Tech Mahindra following better-than-expected quarterly results. Peers TCS, Infosys, and HCL Tech also logged solid gains. Over the week, the Sensex rose 3.1%, marking its best weekly performance in six months.
