Where to Sell and Buy the Pound: Simple Trading Tips for Beginner Traders on November 3

Trade Review and Trading Tips for the British Pound

The test of 1.3421 occurred when the MACD indicator had just begun moving upward from the zero line, confirming that the entry point for buying the pound was appropriate. However, the pair failed to rise.

The pound rose in the first half of the day, although UK economic data provided little justification for the move. The UK manufacturing PMI came in at 52.8, in line with both the forecast and the previous reading. US data shifted the balance. The US manufacturing ISM index came in at 55.5, compared with expectations of 54.5, restoring demand for the dollar. Demand for the dollar typically strengthens when robust economic data push up expectations for the Fed's interest rate. The pound is likely to remain dependent on the dollar in the near term, as no new UK economic data are available. With no UK economic releases scheduled today, the pound will have to trade without domestic catalysts. There are no economic data releases or speeches in the first half of the day that could influence expectations for the Bank of England's interest rate. Consequently, the market will have little reason to move GBP/USD in either direction. During such periods, the price tends to remain within a sideways range, with breakouts more often driven by external factors than by UK news.

Regarding the intraday strategy, the focus will primarily be on implementing Scenarios No. 1 and No. 2.

Buying Scenarios

Scenario No. 1: The pound will be bought today if the price reaches the entry level around 1.3417 (the green line on the chart), with a target of 1.3444 (the thicker green line on the chart). Around 1.3444, the long position will be closed and a short position will be opened, targeting a move of 30–35 points in the opposite direction from that level. Any further rise in the pound today is expected to remain within the trading range. Important: Before buying, make sure that the MACD indicator is above the zero line and has just begun moving upward from it.

Scenario No. 2: The pound will also be bought today if the price tests 1.3402 twice consecutively while the MACD indicator is in the oversold zone. This would limit the pair's downward potential and trigger a reversal to the upside. The pair could then rise toward the opposite levels of 1.3417 and 1.3444.

Selling Scenarios

Scenario No. 1: The pound will be sold today after the price breaks below 1.3402 (the red line on the chart), which could trigger a rapid decline in the pair. The sellers' main target will be 1.3373, where the short position will be closed and a long position will be opened immediately, targeting a rebound of 20–25 points in the opposite direction from that level. Negative news could renew downward pressure on the pound. Important: Before selling, make sure that the MACD indicator is below the zero line and has just begun moving downward from it.

Scenario No. 2: The pound will also be sold today if the price tests 1.3417 twice consecutively while the MACD indicator is in the overbought zone. This would limit the pair's upward potential and trigger a reversal to the downside. The pair could then decline toward the next levels of 1.3402 and 1.3373.

When entering the market, it is important to consider the overbought and oversold zones.

Important. Beginner Forex traders should exercise considerable caution when deciding when to enter the market. Before the release of major fundamental reports, it is best to stay out of the market to avoid sudden exchange rate fluctuations. If trading during news releases, always place stop-loss orders to minimize losses. Without stop-loss orders, the entire trading account can be lost very quickly, especially when trading large volumes without proper money management.

Remember that successful trading requires a clear trading plan, such as the one outlined above. Making spontaneous trading decisions based on current market conditions is a losing strategy for intraday traders from the outset.
