According to the Interfax-Ukraine news agency, Norwegian energy company Statoil has started deliveries of natural gas under a contract signed with Ukrainian Naftogaz. The supplies are implemented through Slovakia in the volume of about 12-15 million cubic meters per day.
Interfax-Ukraine reports that Statoil has started gas supplies to Ukraine on October 1, 2014. The volumes of imports are about 50% of the capacity of the Slovak gas transit corridor. The contract with Statoil will allow Ukraine to diversify its gas supplies from Europe.
In September 2014 Ukrainian gas imports from Europe amounted to 986 million cubic meters. The main exporters were Slovakia, Poland, and Hungary. Their supplies were 779 million cubic meters, 117 million cubic meters, and 90 million cubic meters of natural gas, respectively.
