Freely floating rouble

On Monday, 10th of November, the Bank of Russia floated the rouble abandoning the current exchange rate policy. According to the CBR website, the Russian regulator dismantled currency’s trading corridor that had been into existence since 1995. At the same time, the Bank of Russia reserved the right to carry out exchange rate interventions at any time if financial stability is threatened.
According to Elvira Nabiullina, head of the Central Bank of Russia, the regulator "will intervene in the currency market at any moment with the necessary volumes to break the effect of any surge or speculative movement." Thus, two month earlier than expected, the Bank of Russia let the rouble float freely on the market.
