The Times makes Frau Merkel worthy of title Person of Year 2014

British newspaper The Times has named Germany’s Chancellor Angela Merkel as the most powerful person of the year. The article on the newspaper’s website is entitled The woman we need in a world full of dangerous men.
The Times notes that in 2014 Angela Merkel played “central role in preserving European stability at a time of resurgent Russian aggression”. The paper also praises her active participation in “the west’s fraught negotiations with Russia’s President Putin after his annexation of Crimea.”
More than once, Forbes has acknowledged Frau Merkel as being the most influential woman in the world. In the context of the escalating stand-off between Russia and the West, The Guardian wrote in 2014 that Angela Merkel coped to tame “the Russian bear” and unite Europe.
