Ukraine stops buying Russian gas

Ukraine's Naftogaz will stop buying gas from Russia's Gazprom from July 1 after energy ministers from Kiev and Moscow failed to reach a final agreement at gas supply talks in Vienna. The information comes from the company’s press release published on June 30.
"Since the additional agreement between Naftogaz and Gazprom is expiring on June 30, and the terms of further Russian gas deliveries to Ukraine were not agreed at today's trilateral talks in Vienna, Naftogaz is suspending purchases from the Russian company," the Ukrainian firm said in a statement.
At the same time, the representatives of the company emphasized that Ukraine will continue with gas delivery to Europe according to the terms of the current contract.
Earlier, Ukraine's Naftogaz asked Gazprom to give it a new discount when the previous one expires in the second quarter of the year. Russia’s Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev said that Moscow is ready to meet Kiev halfway. Taking into account all factors, in the third quarter of the year, the final gas price will be $247.18 per thousand cubic meters. The necessary document was signed by Russia’s Prime Minister on June 29.
