The skill of making money out of nothing has been always highly appreciated. Rarely, one can see a high value and financial prospects in an ordinary thing. However, auctioneers of Chippenham Auction Rooms are indeed capable of this. They could see a bright financial future of Queen Victoria's underwear. Experts are sure that ‘big pants’ will be sold for a record price at auction. The auction organizers expect to receive thousands of pounds for such an unusual lot when it goes under the hammer. According to the description, the royal underwear has a 45 inch waist and is in "excellent" condition. The items of clothing come from Yesterday’s World, a museum in Sussex and all have the stamp ‘VR’, which is short for ‘Victoria Regina’. Richard Edmonds, principal auctioneer at Chippenham Auction Rooms, said: “Items of Queen Victoria’s clothing were often given to members of the royal household, particularly after her death in 1901.” Though it seems that the underwear should attract attention only of the British, mainly foreigners express interest in such lots. Mr. Edmonds especially relies on American and Russian collectors if speaking of various royal lots. The auction will also sell other items of clothing of Queen Victoria and her daughter Alice.
