At the meeting of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) in Baku, Deputy Labor Minister for Planning and Development Mufarrij bin Saad Al-Hagbani said that unemployment was the key reason for a wave of demonstrations and revolutions in the Middle East in 2010.
As he has it, five years ago the jobless rates in the countries of the region soared to the record highs. According to Mufarrij bin Saad Al-Hagbani, what the region needs to be resilient to such unwelcome phenomena is sustainable economic growth. He also emphasized that international cooperation and sharing experiences are currently at the top of the OIC agenda.
The minister’s words are particularly topical now as unemployment in Europe is at a critically high level, there is obvious social instability, and analysts fear the Arab Spring will continue.
