New 5 euro banknote in circulation

According to EuroNews, on May 2, a new five euro banknote went into circulation in the eurozone. Pertaining to the note, up-to-date measures aimed at counteracting forgery were implemented. The features include a watermark with a portrait of Europe, a mythological creature; a hologram with a portrait of Europe; special lines on both left and right edges of the note; the number 5 is presented in emerald green, however, when tilting it changes its colour to a blue one.
Old five euro notes will remain legal tender for some time. Both new and old ones will be in circulation together. Although the old banknotes will be gradually withdrawn, they will retain their monetary value indefinitely. Anyone holding the old notes will be able to exchange them at national central banks.
It is planned to introduce gradually other denomination banknotes over a number of years. It is the first time the euro's design has been changed since the introduction of the euro in 2002.
