In quarter one of 2013 about 49.2 million tablets were sold, which is almost 2.5 times more than for the same period a year earlier. As the report released by IDC puts it, Apple still leads the market, but its share is falling gradually. Thus, last year iPad constituted 58.1% of all tablets sold, in January-March of 2013 the number slid to 39.6%.
At the same time the sales of the main Apple rivals grew considerably. Samsung has 17.9% (vs. last year 11.3%) of the market. Asus tablets sales increased to 5.5% and sales of Amazon — to 3.7%. The top five is closed by Microsoft with the share of 1.8%.
IDC survey shows that tablets with OS Android take up 56.5% of the market (last year it was 39.4%), while the share of iOS narrowed from 58.1% to 39.6%.
Windows has managed to improve its results thrice – from 1% to 3.3%.
At the end of April another analytical agency presented its report on tablet market sales - Strategy Analytics. All in all, about 40.6 million units were sold, which is 11.7% more than a year ago, where 19.5 million were those with iOS and 17.6 million – on the basis of Android.
