Great Britain is an initiator of tightening the control over the global web users. The reason for that is terrorism. Referring to the Spy Charter, Home Secretary of the United Kingdom Theresa May demands that the internet giants disclose the personal information and emails of their users. According to the Guardian and the Times, the largest companies such as Google, Facebook, Twitter, Microsoft, and Yahoo! have sent Ms May a private letter expressing their refusal to co-operate with “snooper's charter”. The American corporations also noted that this measure oriented to track people's web activities has "potentially seriously harmful consequences". This bill implementation will not just downgrade the UK rating as a “leading digital nation”, but also casts doubt on the existence of freedom of speech in the country.
That is not the first time when the government intends to limit customers' activity in the cyberspace. Recently, the U.S.A. and Russia have brought forward the proposals concerning clampdown on online piracy. The Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation managed to obtain an amendment to the Intellectual Property Protection law that provides more severe punishments for such offenders. The Congress of the United States got a suggestion for the deleterious software utilization in order to fight against the illegal downloading. Now the privacy of everyone, who uses electronic mail, instant messaging services or Skype, may be breached.
