Russian universities intend to be on top of the world

In compliance with the decree of Russia's president, at least five Russian universities are supposed to be on the list of the top 100 best educational institutions in the world. Currently, Shanghai rating made the Russians proud of the 77th position gained by the Lomonosov Moscow State University. The other world rankings do not include the Russian institutions of higher education. According to Prime Minister of the Russian Federation Dmitry Medvedev, to boost the prestige, the universities should attract not just foreign students and teachers, but also foreign business. “The person, who had already worked at different places, has broaden his horizon. He is better integrated into global science, acquainted with innovative technologies and methods, which are widespread all over the world,” Mr Medvedev noted. Besides, the half the battle is to create certain intellectual environment and favorable conditions for studies and research. Dmitry Medvedev also drew experts' attention to the universities competitiveness, level of the professional qualification of graduates and labor market demand for them. To cut the long story short, the system of higher education in Russia is going to be changed fundamentally. The modification is likely to take about ten years.
