McDonald's and Burger King strikes span 60 U.S. cities

Fast-food workers went on strike in 60 cities across the U.S., CNN Money said on August 29. They were employees at McDonald's, Wendy's, KFC, and Burger King. A series of strikes took place in dozens of the U.S. cities, including Chicago, Boston, Denver, Houston, Memphis, Los Angeles, and others major urban areas.
In New York, Macy's, Sears, Walgreens, and Victoria's Secret employees joined the protesting fast-food workers. Organizers found it difficult to report the number of participants, but said thousands of people across the country walked off their jobs on August 29.
The fast-food workers are calling on their employers to pay them a minimum of $15 an hour and allow them to form unions. Currently, the average pay for the fast-food workers across the country is just over $9 an hour, or about $18,500 a year. That is $4,000 less than the poverty threshold for a family of four, according to the Census Bureau.
The $200 billion fast-food industry workers were first involved in protests last November. They cooperate with the Occupy Wall Street (OWS), the protest movement against large corporations.
