Building a stadium in Russia costs 33.5 billion rubles

The stadium, which is supposed to be the number one arena and a good place to train for one of the best Russian football clubs, is going to change a building contractor once again. The sport facility is not even built but well-known due to massive cash inflows. Transstroy construction company owned by Oleg Deripaska is the major constructor now. The contract for building the stadium for FC Zenit in Saint-Petersburg is expiring at the end of the year. It is most likely to be terminated earlier. The contractor exceeded the expenditure limit. The initial estimate was 22.5 billion rubles, but now it has risen to 34.6 billion rubles. Even the latest amount is not enough for the new arena. The builder thought the current sum is too small for its well-being and decided to ask for extra 9 billion rubles to finish the construction. The additional money was included into the estimate without a new tender, as the federal law on government purchases has breaches. They did not stop even after that. When it was known the 2018 FIFA World Cup is scheduled to take place in 2018 in Russia, the sum increased by 2 billion, as they said it is necessary to make the already expensive stadium matching the future event. After this request for a new tranche the St-Petersburg City Administration thought: “ Do they ask for too much money?” The Smolny is set to negotiate with the contractor representatives in order to whether reduce the costs or to hold a tender and hire a new construction company. Transstroy press service announced that it is going to compete upon general conditions.
