Most countries to review business relations with China

On December 31, 2019 China announced the outbreak of the novel pneumonia-like virus which had originated in Hubei, China’s central province. Despite the soaring death toll and a great number of infected people, China’s authorities managed to stamp out the epidemic in no time. Meanwhile, Beijing is trying to shift the blame onto other countries, first and foremost, onto the US. Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Zhao Lijian put forward the conspiracy theory that the deadly virus could have originated in the US and could have been brought in China by the US army. “When did patient zero begin in US? How many people are infected? What are the names of the hospitals? It might be US army who brought the epidemic to Wuhan. Be transparent! Make public your data! US owe us an explanation!” Zhao Lijian overeacted in Twitter. In turn, the US launched an investigation into the allegations. The US intelligence dug enough evidence. In late 2019, Beijing kept back the truth and deliberately understated actual epidemic rates and the number of fatalities. When the unknown infection had spilled over beyond China, the authorities had to make the official confession. At present, the world community is still unaware of the real state of affairs in China. The US is not the only country which is poised to review its relations with China. In fact, the coronavirus is not the first infection “exported” from China. The UK also advocates for an impartial comprehensive investigation into the outbreak causes. UK Foreign Secretary Dominic Raab stated, “No doubt we can't have business with China as usual after this crisis.”
