Angela Merkel wins biggest victory in German election

Angela Merkel celebrates German election victory; the hope of European economy has won the third term in office. According to official results, Angela Merkel's conservative Christian Democrats (CDU) party won the elections held September 22 with 41.5% of the vote. The leaders of the EU nations were the first to congratulate Merkel on her victory. Former Italian Prime Minister Mario Monti highlighted that Germany remains reliable and consistent in its policy combining the role of the Europe's locomotive and authoritative national government. Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban noted in his congratulatory speech that the triumph Merkel achieved in the elections was an important victory that inspired confidence not only in Germany’s prosperity but also in the future of the European Union. The victory once again confirmed that even during the financial crisis reliable leaders can find support and gain the trust of voters. Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk heartily congratulated neighbors with "excellent choice”. The official results showed that the German Chancellor’s Christian Democrats romped home with 41.5% of the vote – the best performance for the last 20 years. They were followed by Social Democrats with 25.7% of the vote. In addition, the Left Party and the Greens entered the Bundestag succeeding to overcome the 5% barrier.
