Microsoft СEO Steve Ballmer is getting $550,000 bonus on the results of fiscal year 2013. The news was posted on the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission’s website in the materials dealing with Microsoft.
Ballmer’s salary for the fiscal year that ended June 30 was estimated at $697,500. As Associated Press specifies, on the whole, Ballmer’s bonus turned out to be 21% lower than the previously planned figure. In 2012, the CEO’s bonus was 9% down the target figure. However, Ballmer got his bonus in full a year earlier.
The media links Ballmer’s contracted bonus to shareholders’ discontent by the recent Microsoft performance, in particular sluggish sales of Surface tablet computers and Windows 8 operating system. According to different media sources, several investors even brought up a forced resignation of Bill Gates, the current Chairman of the Board of directors.
Steve Ballmer has been working for Microsoft since 1980; he has been holding the CEO position since 2008. He announced his resignation in late August, thus he is going to step down within the next 12 months. A new company’s executive has not been selected for the time being.
