Uruguay Unemployment Rate Falls in December

As of December 2025, Uruguay experienced a decline in its unemployment rate, which dropped to 7.0% from November's 7.3%. Comparatively, the unemployment figures were more favorable in Montevideo at 6.6%, versus 7.2% in other regions of the country. When analyzing the data by gender, unemployment was significantly lower for men at 5.4%, while it reached 8.7% for women. The youth demographic, those aged 14 to 24, continued to face substantial challenges, with unemployment soaring at 24.3%. Conversely, the least unemployment was found among those aged 65 and over, with a mere 1.1% jobless rate. Among employed individuals, 8.5% were considered underemployed, and 21.9% did not have social security coverage in their primary occupation. Furthermore, the labor force participation rate remained unchanged at 64.5%, while the employment rate maintained at 60.0%.
