Ibovespa Edges Lower Ahead of Rate Decision

The Ibovespa slipped 0.1% to close at 177,726 on Wednesday as investors awaited the Brazilian Central Bank’s interest rate decision and digested another round of corporate earnings. The market consensus is for Copom to cut the Selic rate by 25 basis points to 14.0%, with the focus squarely on the accompanying statement for signals on whether an additional reduction could come in September.

Financial stocks were mostly weaker, with Bradesco down 0.8% and BB Seguridade off 0.9%. In contrast, Itaú advanced 0.7% after reporting a 7.8% year-on-year increase in managerial recurring net income, in line with expectations. In the industrial and healthcare segments, Gerdau rose 1.7% after stronger-than-expected 2Q26 results, while RD Saúde led the gainers, jumping 5.9% following its earnings release. Petrobras declined 1.3%, tracking lower oil prices. After the close, Bradesco, Axia (0%), Auren (-1.1%), Brava (+2.6%), and Engie (-1%) are scheduled to report their results.
