Foreign investment in Japanese stocks showed a marked improvement, with net outflows narrowing significantly according to the latest data released on 30 September 2026.
The indicator for foreign investments in Japanese equities improved to -362.0 billion yen, compared with a much deeper net outflow of -1,522.8 billion yen previously. While overseas investors remained net sellers, the sharp reduction in selling suggests easing pressure on Japan’s equity market and a possible shift in sentiment after a period of heavier withdrawals.
Market participants will be watching upcoming data releases to assess whether this moderation in outflows signals a stabilization in foreign positioning or merely a pause in a broader reduction of exposure to Japanese stocks.
