Austria Current Account Balance Swings to Deficit

In the third quarter of 2025, Austria's current account balance transitioned to a EUR 0.1 billion deficit, a shift from the EUR 0.2 billion surplus recorded in the same period of the previous year. The deficit in primary income expanded significantly to EUR 0.7 billion from EUR 0.1 billion a year prior. Similarly, the secondary income deficit also increased, rising to EUR 0.8 billion from EUR 0.3 billion. Conversely, the goods surplus grew to EUR 1.2 billion, up from EUR 1.0 billion in the third quarter of 2024. Additionally, the services account recorded a EUR 0.2 billion surplus, reversing from a EUR 0.4 billion deficit experienced in the corresponding quarter of the previous year.
