Estonia Retail Sales Growth Slows to 4-Month Low

Retail sales in Estonia rose by 1.6% year-on-year in April 2026, slowing from a 6.9% increase in March. This was the weakest expansion in retail activity since the downturn recorded in December 2025. The deceleration was driven primarily by a sharp slowdown in automotive fuel sales at specialized stores, which grew 2.7% compared with 14.8% in the previous month, as well as in non-fuel non-food products, where growth eased to 1.4% from 10.1%. In contrast, sales of food, beverages, and tobacco continued to contract, falling 0.9% year-on-year; however, this was a smaller decline than the 1.8% drop seen in March. On a monthly basis, retail sales fell by 3.5% in April 2026, sharply reversing the strong 14.5% increase recorded in the previous month.
