Hungary Current Account Surplus Narrows in Q4

Hungary’s current account surplus narrowed to EUR 0.32 billion in the fourth quarter of 2025, down from EUR 0.77 billion in the same period a year earlier, defying market expectations for a EUR 0.40 billion deficit. The goods balance posted a sharply wider deficit of EUR 1.43 billion, compared with EUR 0.40 billion in the fourth quarter of the previous year. At the same time, the primary income deficit increased to EUR 1.13 billion from EUR 0.84 billion. By contrast, the services surplus strengthened to EUR 2.85 billion, up from EUR 2.39 billion a year earlier. In addition, the secondary income account moved into surplus, registering EUR 0.03 billion after a EUR 0.38 billion deficit in the corresponding quarter of the previous year.
