Malta Industrial Production at 4-Month High

Malta’s annual industrial production rose by 5.1% year-on-year in August 2026, following an upwardly revised 4.0% increase in July. This was the strongest expansion since April, largely driven by higher output in the manufacturing sector (2.9% vs 2.6% in July). Within manufacturing, the most notable increases were recorded in the production of wood, paper products, and printing (44.9%), other manufacturing (8.1%), and in computer, electronic and optical products, and motor vehicles (3.5%).

By main industrial grouping, output also rose sharply in the energy sector (33.9% vs 23.0%), while activity rebounded for consumer durable goods (0.4% vs -1.1%) and intermediate goods (3.5% vs -3.2%). Conversely, production growth slowed for consumer goods overall (8.1% vs 12.5%), reflecting weaker growth in consumer non-durable goods (9.1% vs 13.8%), and declined further for capital goods (-8.0% vs -7.4%).

On a seasonally adjusted month-on-month basis, industrial production edged up by 0.1% in August, following a revised 3.2% increase in July, marking the smallest monthly gain since May.
