Germany’s new car registrations rose 15.7% year-over-year in June 2026 to 296,378 units. Private registrations jumped 28.6% and accounted for 36.6% of the total, while commercial registrations increased 9.4%, representing the remaining 63.4%.
Battery electric vehicles (BEVs) recorded the strongest growth, with 84,057 units registered—a surge of 78.2%—bringing their market share to 28.4%. By contrast, registrations of gasoline-powered cars declined 16.8%, reducing their share to 20.5%, and diesel registrations fell 5.1%, leaving them with an 11.4% share.
Over the first half of 2026, total new car registrations reached 1.48 million units, an increase of 5.8% compared with the same period in 2025. BEVs led the expansion with a 48.0% rise, while gasoline and diesel registrations contracted by 18.2% and 8.6%, respectively.
