Sensex Extends Losses, Hits 6-Week Low

India’s BSE Sensex fell another 0.9% to around 75,688 in early trading on Friday, extending losses for a fifth straight session and hitting its lowest level since June 12. Sentiment remained under pressure as surging crude oil prices and disappointing corporate earnings weighed on the market.

Brent crude rose back above $100 per barrel amid renewed tensions in the Middle East, stoking worries over higher input costs for Indian companies. The spike in oil prices also pressured the Indian rupee, which hovered near a record low against the US dollar, amplifying concerns about more expensive imports and the knock-on effects on corporate profitability.

Weak quarterly results added to the downbeat mood. Infosys slipped after posting earnings that missed expectations, while InterGlobe Aviation also faced selling pressure following a softer-than-anticipated report.

Among individual names, prominent decliners included Swiggy (-6.5%), Shadowfax Tech (-5.3%), InterGlobe Aviation (-2.4%), Bluestone Jewellery (-1.9%), Eternal (-2.1%), and Infosys (-1.8%).
