Taiwan Stocks End Above 48,000 as Tech Stocks Rally

The TAIEX, Taiwan’s benchmark stock index, gained 286 points, or 0.6%, on Wednesday to close at a record high of 48,086, marking its sixth consecutive advance. It was the first time the index finished above the 48,000 level, driven largely by strength in electronic technology shares amid optimism over AI infrastructure investment.

The electronic technology subindex rose 1.2%. Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) — the world’s largest contract chipmaker and accounting for more than 40% of the market’s total capitalization — climbed 1.4%, rebounding after a decline on Tuesday. Nanya Technology and Unimicron Technology also rallied, jumping 3.8% and 3.6%, respectively.

The broader market tracked gains on Wall Street, where the tech-heavy Nasdaq Composite closed at a record high, supported by solid advances in AI-related stocks. Sentiment was further bolstered by easing oil prices and lower US Treasury yields. Optimism surrounding the upcoming Trump–Xi summit this week also underpinned risk appetite, as investors expect AI and tariff policy to be key topics of discussion.
