Among them are the owner of NBA’s Los Angeles Clippers Steve Ballmer ($90.2 billion) and Brazilian investment banker Jorge Paulo Lemann ($14.5 billion), as well as the former CEO of Goldman Sachs Lloyd Blankfein ($1.2 billion).
2nd place – University of Pennsylvania
Fourteen heads of state, including the 45th President of the United States Donald Trump, studied at the University of Pennsylvania. The Penn, which was founded in 1740, was also the alma mater of 28 billionaires. Elon Musk, the CEO of Tesla and SpaceX and the world’s richest person with a fortune of more than $260 billion, is one of the most notable past students of the university. Musk’s fortune has pushed the total net worth of the Penn’s billionaire alumni to $284 billion, well above Harvard’s $207 billion.
3rd place – Stanford University
California’s Stanford University occupies third place on the list. Its 28 billionaire alumni have a total net worth of $124 billion. The most famous of them are David Velez, the founder of the digital bank Nubank ($4.6 billion), Yahoo’s co-founder Jerry Yang ($2.7 billion), and Vlad Tenev, the founder of Robinhood ($2.4 billion).
4th place – Yale University
Yale is considered to be one of the most prestigious American universities. Over its more than 300 years of history, this university produced US presidents and statesmen, Nobel Prize laureates, notable cultural figures, and successful businessmen. According to the latest estimates, the total net worth of Yale’s richest alumni is valued at $140 billion. Among them are John Mars, the heir of the food giant Mars Inc. ($33 billion) and the owner of NBA’s Brooklyn Nets Joe Tsai ($8 billion).
5th place – University of Mumbai
The University of Mumbai, which was established in 1857, is the only non-American institution on the list. It is one of the top 5 universities in India. Out of its thousands of alumni, 20 have become the richest people in India and elsewhere. One of such former students is Asia’s richest billionaire Mukesh Ambani, who has a fortune of almost $95 billion. The total net worth of the university’s billionaire alumni is $162 billion.
6th place – Cornell University
Cornell University is known for being the alma mater of more than 40 Nobel Prize laureates. Many billionaire entrepreneurs also studied at this university, including the ex-CEO of PeopleSoft David Duffield ($9.8 billion) and the former chairman of Citigroup Sandy Weill ($1 billion). In total, the 18 billionaire alumni of Cornell are worth $65 billion.
7th place – University of Southern California
Located in Los Angeles, the University of Southern California has produced numerous Oscar-winning filmmakers. Among them is George Lucas, the creator of the Star Wars franchise, whose net worth is valued at $5.6 billion. Lucas is not the only billionaire who studied there – 15 billionaires received their higher education at the USC. Their total net worth is estimated at $58 billion.
