Estonia Retail Sales Unchanged in December

In December 2025, Estonia's retail sales experienced a decline of 0.4% compared to the same period the previous year, maintaining the rate of decrease observed in November. This represents the second straight month of reduced retail activity, marking the lowest point since August. The growth in sales of automotive fuel decelerated, posting a 10.2% increase from November's 13%. Meanwhile, there was a significant drop in sales for textiles, clothing, and footwear, which fell by 2.4% compared to a 0.5% rise previously, and for second-hand goods, as well as retail operations in kiosks, markets, and other non-store environments, which plummeted by 6.1% following a 10.3% increase in November. Conversely, the decline in the food, beverages, and tobacco categories moderated slightly, recording a reduction of 4.3% compared to the previous decline of 4.7%. Similar easing was seen in other non-specialized stores, with a 3.8% drop from 8.3%, in household goods, appliances, hardware, and building materials, which fell by 4.9% from 6.4%, and in mail-order and online sales, with a decrease of 4% following a 9.7% fall. However, on a month-to-month basis, retail sales saw a substantial increase of 13.2% in December, bouncing back robustly from a decline of 4.8% in the prior ten-month low period.
