Mexico’s Retail Sector Rebounds in January with 1.0% MoM Growth

Mexico’s retail sales bounced back at the start of 2026, rising 1.0% month-over-month in January, according to data updated on 23 March 2026. The increase marks a clear turnaround from December 2025, when retail sales had slipped 0.1% compared with November.

The month-over-month improvement suggests a strengthening in consumer spending momentum after the year-end softness. In this comparison framework, the current 1.0% reading for January 2026 is measured against December 2025, while the previous -0.1% reading for December 2025 reflected the change from November to December.

The latest figures indicate a more positive start to the year for Mexico’s retail sector, with January’s gain more than offsetting the modest contraction seen in the closing month of 2025.
