Mexico’s unemployment rate held at 2.9% in July 2026, unchanged from June and remaining at its highest level since September 2025, while coming in just below expectations of a rise to 3%. The number of unemployed people was stable at 1.8 million. Joblessness inched higher among women (3.1% vs. 3.0%) but eased among men (2.7% vs. 2.8%).
Among the unemployed, 89.3% had completed upper‑secondary or higher education, while 10.7% had not finished secondary school. By age group, the largest share of unemployed persons was in the 25–44 bracket (46.9%), followed by those aged 15–24 (33.8%).
The employment rate was unchanged at 91.7%, and the number of employed workers ticked up to 60.8 million. Employment remained concentrated in commerce (19.6%), manufacturing (15.9%), agriculture (10.6%), and construction (8.7%).
Meanwhile, the labor force decreased to 62.6 million, even as the labor force participation rate edged up to 59.2%.
