Japan’s wage momentum strengthened in the latest reading, with Average Cash Earnings rising 4.6% year-over-year, according to data updated on 5 November 2026. This marks a notable acceleration from the previous year-over-year increase of 3.9%.
The indicator reflects how much workers’ total cash income has changed compared with the same month a year earlier. The newly reported figure shows that earnings growth in the latest month outpaced that of the prior month, which had itself been measured against the corresponding month a year earlier.
The pickup from 3.9% to 4.6% suggests that wage pressures are building compared with last year’s levels, as each monthly release compares the current month’s pay packets with those of the same month in the previous year, while the earlier reading was similarly benchmarked against its own year-ago period.
