Swiss Consumer Confidence Broadly Stable At -38.1

The State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO) revealed on Monday that Swiss consumer confidence remained relatively stable in April. The consumer confidence index was recorded at -38.1 in April, barely fluctuating from its 8-month peak of -38.0 in March. However, it's worth noting that the consumer sentiment index still lags behind the longstanding average.

Looking at the four core sub-components, we see a rise in consumer expectations regarding the general economic condition over the coming twelve months. Specifically, the corresponding index increased to -21.2 in April from -24.3 previously.

In parallel, the index evaluating major purchase intentions edged up to -37.2, rising from -40.0. Conversely, households exhibited a more pessimistic view of their own financial situation, with the index dipping to -36.2 from -33.0. The index charting the economic situation's past performance also fell, declining from -53.4 to -57.6.
