Baltic Dry Index Snaps 3-Day Advance

The Baltic Exchange’s dry bulk freight index, which tracks charter rates for vessels transporting dry bulk commodities, ended a three-session winning streak on Monday, slipping about 0.7% to 2,017 points.

The capesize index, reflecting earnings for vessels that typically carry 150,000-ton cargoes such as iron ore and coal, declined 0.9% to 3,004 points after three consecutive sessions of gains.

The panamax index, covering ships that usually transport 60,000 to 70,000 tons of coal or grain, fell 0.8% to 1,742 points, its lowest level in nearly seven weeks.

Among smaller segments, the supramax index edged down 3 points, or 0.3%, to 1,203 points.
